2024 GMC Terrain Dimensions, Changes, AWD

2024 GMC Terrain Dimensions, Changes, AWDThe incredibly excellent GMC Terrain has been updated for the model year 2024. It undergoes significant revisions, including eliminating the base SL trim while simultaneously releasing the all-new AT4 model with an emphasis on off-road performance. The 2024 Terrain also gets new front and rear fascias, three new exterior color options, 18- and 19-inch wheel designs, and new interior materials and trims. The SUV’s interior features a new head-up display, and the entertainment system now supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wirelessly. As earlier as the fall of 2023, the Terrain SLT trim will be available with a new Tech Package.

The 2024 GMC Terrain retains the same 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 engine, producing 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. The interior is well-designed and large, offering everything you need for a slightly inflated price. However, the vehicle’s selling point is its looks, which are as attractive as tiny SUVs. With a starting price of $29,695, the 2024 GMC Terrain competes directly with the Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, and Honda CR-V.

2024 GMC Terrain Redesign

The GMC Terrain sports a truck-like front appearance with a lengthy overhang for a crossover with a 1.5-liter engine. Off-road, a long overhang does not auger well for approach and departure angles—the AT4 sports a front skid plate, brand-new 17-inch wheels, and its unique trim accents. In 2024, the exterior will be updated with a new grille and fascia, as well as LED headlamps and taillights. There are three more paint choices: Marine Metallic, Cayenne Red Metallic, and the trendy Desert Sand Metallic, which is only available for the AT4.

The remainder of the GMC Terrain will remain the same, with black lower body trim, deep-tinted rear glass, heated power-adjustable mirrors, roof rails, and fog lamps (halogen). Roof racks, the SkyScape power sunroof, side steps, and a few more exterior items are available as options. The GMC Terrain is the most extended vehicle in terms of external dimensions, measuring 182.3 inches in length, and has the most extended wheelbase at 107.3 inches. With a height of 67 inches, the Toyota RAV4 is the tallest vehicle. It also has the most land clearance at 8.4 inches.

Interior

A vast and inviting interior is marred by poor construction quality and an average assortment of items. Meanwhile, the Terrain’s awkward push-button shifter adds salt to the inside wounds of the tiny crossover. It comprises multiple switches that resemble power window controls, which are low on the center console and challenging to operate. Although we believe owners would become accustomed to the small buttons over time, we found them difficult to detect at a glance, especially when searching for reverse, making it tough to execute quick three-point turns or operate the transmission’s manual mode. The Terrain is an accommodating companion for transporting a considerable cargo of varying sizes. It has a standard 60/40 rear seat and an optional flat-folding front seat. Cargo space in the Terrain is class-competitive. During our carry-on luggage test, the Terrain accommodated 24 cases with the rear seats folded. Still, the CR-V is marginally more accommodating for individuals pursuing the maximum load space.

Terrain’s infotainment system is simple to operate and quick to respond to orders thanks to its clear graphics, logical menus, and the newest in-car networking technologies. Standard features include wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot. A navigation design is standard on the Denali trim level and optional on lower versions. The Terrain offers a head-up display, which is standard on the Denali and optional on the SLT and AT4. However, unlike other GM vehicles that project this feature onto the windshield, the Terrain uses a pop-up screen on the top of the dashboard.

Engine

The only available engine for the 2024 GMC Terrain is a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 with 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. The 2.0L turbocharged inline-four engine is no longer available for the 2024 model year. The 1.5L turbocharged engine is coupled with a 9-speed automated transmission that sends all of its power to the front wheels. AWD is also an option for the drivetrain. The 1.5-liter engine holds a decent position in driving and handling, as it propels the crossover with ease and travels smoothly on highways. In addition, a 0-60 MPH time of 9.3 seconds will be praised by everyday drivers. All-wheel drive is a good upgrade if you occasionally drive on rough Terrain and want to feel more confident while driving.

The Toyota RAV4 has 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, which is 33 horsepower more than the GMC Terrain. Following the RAV4 is the Mazda CX-5, with 187 horsepower and a 0-60 MPH timing of 8.1 seconds. It is the fastest in the group. The Honda CR-V follows with 190 horsepower and the least remarkable acceleration time of 7.7 seconds. The GMC Terrain has the lowest amount of horsepower and the longest 0-60 time.
