Mediocre construction quality and an average combination of materials let down a roomy and welcoming interior. It comprises several switches that resemble power window controls that are challenging to operate and are situated low on the center console. Although we believe owners will eventually get used to it, we found the little buttons challenging to see at a glance—especially when reaching for reverse—making it challenging to perform quick three-point turns or use the manual mode of the transmission. The Terrain makes an accommodating partner when hauling heavy items of varied sizes. Credit a front seat that can be folded flat and a regular rear seat that splits into two 60/40 seats. Class-class competitive space is available in the Terrain’s cargo hold. With the back seats folded, the Terrain handled 24 bags in our carry-on luggage test; however, the CR-V offers slightly more cargo space for customers looking for the absolute most.
Terrain’s infotainment system is simple to use and responsive to commands, and it benefits from clear graphics, logical menus, and the newest in-car connectivity technologies. An onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard. The top Denali model comes standard with an in-dash navigation system; lesser models can also have one. The Terrain uses a pop-up panel on the top of the dashboard, unlike other GM vehicles that project this feature onto the windshield. A head-up display comes with the Denali and can be added to the SLT and AT4.
Engine
The only available engine for the 2024 GMC Terrain is a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 with 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. The 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 has been retired for the 2024 model year. The power is sent to the front wheels via a 9-speed automated transmission and the 1.5L turbocharged engine. Another potential drivetrain choice is AWD. With its smooth road cruising and effortless propulsion, the crossover, the 1.5L, claims a respectable position in terms of handling and driving. Furthermore, daily drivers will appreciate a 0–60 MPH time of 9.3 seconds. All-wheel drive is a good add-on if you want to be able to handle sometimes rough Terrain and drive with confidence overall.
The Toyota RAV4 has the most incredible power of the group, producing 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, or 33 horsepower more than the GMC Terrain. The Mazda CX-5, which has 187 horsepower and is the fastest of the bunch with a 0-60 MPH time of 8.1 seconds, comes in second place to the RAV4. The Honda CR-V follows, with 190 horsepower and the least remarkable acceleration time of 7.7 seconds. The GMC Terrain has the least power and accelerates slowly from 0 to 60 mph.

The starting price of the base 2024 GMC Terrain SLE is $27,900, which is higher than typical for the class. The SLT trim can be upgraded for $31,900, and the brand-new AT4 trim starts at $34,000. The starting MSRP for the top-of-the-line Denali variant is $36,600.
